Iraqi Prime Minister intends to organize US-Iranian talks

Iraqi Prime Minister Muhammad Shia al-Sudani said that he is trying to organize direct negotiations between representatives of the United States and the Islamic Republic of Iran in Baghdad. According to him, this is hampered by the threatening language used by the parties.

“One of the goals of my conversation with the American emissary Tom Barrack, when he visited Baghdad, was to bring Americans and Iranians closer together. He asked what needed to be done for this. I answered: we should treat them with respect,” the head of government said.

The politician said that progress has been made in many areas of Iranian-Iraqi cooperation, and official Baghdad wants to take advantage of these ties to resume negotiations between the US and Iran. “Iran is helping us in the fight against terror and in the political process; this should not be perceived as interference in our internal affairs,” he added.

Let us remind you: Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said that the Islamic Republic is in a state of all-out war with the United States, Israel and Europe. “They don’t want our country to get back on its feet,” he said, adding: “If they attack us again, they will get an even tougher response.”
