Campobasso (Italian) – Terrible end to the holidays for an Italian family: after a Christmas dinner together, mother and daughter (15) died within a few hours. The terrible suspicion: food poisoning, possibly from a fish dish.
As a police spokeswoman confirmed, the drama took place in Campobasso in the Molise region (Italy). The girl died that night, the mother the following morning. The exact cause of death is still unclear. An autopsy was ordered to determine beyond doubt what the mother and daughter were died are.
Mother and daughter dead – father seriously ill
Particularly explosive: The family is said to have been in the emergency room twice before hospital have presented. According to the Italian news agency Ansa, the employees sent them home. The possible cause of death is the family’s multi-course Christmas dinner, at which mussels and other seafood were said to have been served.
The father of the family also fell ill. He is currently being treated in hospital and will apparently be transferred to a clinic in Rome. Only the family’s 18-year-old daughter is said to have no complaints.
Many questions are still open
The case caused great shock in the region. “It is a tragedy that leaves us speechless,” Antonio Tommasone, mayor of the home town of Pietracatella, told Italian media.
Why the family was not initially admitted to hospital despite severe symptoms is now also part of the police investigation. Many questions remain unanswered – the investigations in the coming days will provide answers.
