Trump and Zelensky reported that the peace plan for Ukraine was 95% agreed upon

According to Trump, significant progress has been made towards ending the war. “I would say that we have covered 95% of the issues. We are close to the goal, we have achieved a lot of detail. But there are one or two pressing problems that remain unresolved.” The next negotiations with Zelensky will take place on December 29.

Donbass remains one of the unresolved problems. At the same time, Trump said that he hopes the issue will be resolved.

Vladimir Zelensky noted that “Ukraine’s position on Donbass is different from Russia’s position.” According to him, the issue of territorial concessions should be decided by the people of Ukraine. “We can hold a referendum on any point of this plan… Of course, our society must make a choice, because this is its land… and not the land of one person,” he said. When asked whether Ukrainians living abroad would be able to take part in the referendum, Zelensky said that “this is possible in principle,” but infrastructure is needed to hold such a referendum.

Asked if Trump would visit Ukraine if it would help end the war, he said he didn’t have to go anywhere to complete the deal, then added: “If it’s really necessary, if it helps save 25,000 lives a month, or whatever it is, I’m certainly willing to do it.”

When asked about the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant, Trump replied that “Vladimir Putin is working with Ukraine to get it up and running… He has done well in this regard. He wants it to work.” The Guardian journalist noted that Zelensky barely noticeably shook his head at these words, but said nothing.

Trump noted that the negotiations could still break down and the final results would become clear in “a few weeks.”

Asked whether Russia would be involved in rebuilding Ukraine, Trump replied: “They’re going to help. Russia wants Ukraine to succeed.”
