Hamas confirms the death of its leader in Gaza and the spokesman for its armed wing in Israeli attacks

The Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) confirmed this Monday the death of Mohamed Sinwar, brother of former Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar and head of the group in Gaza after his death, as well as that of the spokesman for its military branch, Abu Obeida, in bombings carried out this year by Israel against the Strip.

The armed wing of Hamas, the Ezeldin al Qasam Brigades, have indicated in a statement that “the great leader” Mohamed Sinwar, alias ‘Abu Ibrahim’, and Abu Obeida died in Israeli attacks within the framework of their offensive against the Strip, unleashed after the attacks of October 7, 2023.

The Israeli Army had already announced the death of Mohamed Sinwar in May, something it did three months with Abu Obeida, without the Palestinian Islamist group having officially commented on their deaths until this Monday, when it also revealed the appointment of a new spokesman for the Ezeldin al Qasam Brigades.

The new spokesman for the armed wing of Hamas has praised that Mohamed Sinwar “led the Ezeldin al Qasam Brigades in a very complicated period, succeeding the great martyr of the nation, Mohamed Deif”, whose death was confirmed by the group in January, more than half a year after Israel announced his death in a bombing near Khan Younis.

Likewise, it has confirmed the death of Muhamad Shabana, alias ‘Abú Anas’, commander of the Rafá Brigade, who died alongside Mohamed Sinwar, as well as that of Hakam al Isa, alias ‘Abú Omar’, who “brought confidence in the jihad in Palestine, Lebanon, Syria and other countries”; Raed Saad, alias ‘Abú Muad’, commander of the military supply manufacturing division and former operations manager.

On the other hand, he has praised the figure of Hudaifa Samir Abdullah al Kahlut, alias ‘Abu Ibrahim’, who until now was known as Abu Obeida, the name used by Hamas spokespersons. “He spent decades provoking enemies and gladdening the hearts of believers, meeting God in the best of circumstances,” he highlighted.

“Hudaifa al Kahlut has passed away. We inherit from him the title of Abu Obeida. Peace to you, among the immortals. We promise to continue your path,” said the group’s new spokesperson, who stressed that “Gaza has offered the most precious thing it has” to “mobilize support in favor of Palestine and the Al Aqsa mosque”, located on the Esplanade of the Mosques in Jerusalem.

EXALIZES THE ATTACKS OF OCTOBER 7, 2023

“Despite all the attacks and violations since the cessation of hostilities, which crossed all red lines, the resistance has fulfilled its obligations and has acted with the utmost responsibility, taking into account the interests of our people and denying the occupation any opportunity to create false pretexts to restart the bloodshed,” Abu Obeida pointed out.

REQUESTS TO FORCE ISRAEL TO COMPLY WITH THE CEASE FIRE

However, he stressed that “the right to respond to these crimes is something inherent and guaranteed.” “We ask all parties involved to contain the occupation and stop its aggression, forcing it to comply with what was agreed,” he said, before insisting that Hamas “will not hand over its weapons as long as the occupation continues to exist and will not surrender even if it has to fight with only its bare hands.”

“From the land of Gaza, the scene of pride and defiance, which dies standing refusing to kneel or lower its flag, we ask the children of our nation to come and help Gaza. Although the sound of the cannons has been reduced, Gaza continues to suffer immensely,” he highlighted, before asking for the delivery of aid to a population “that was abandoned when facing annihilation” at the hands of Israel.

“The nation’s duty now is to be united in the face of the main enemy, which adds capitals to its list of objectives every day and seeks to turn the countries of the region into a gateway to establish what it calls Greater Israel, with proof in its continued aggression against the sister nations of Lebanon and Syria,” he highlighted.

The statement has arrived hours before the Prime Minister of Israel, Benjamin Netanyahu, meets in the United States with the American President, Donald Trump, to address the possible start of the application of the second phase of Washington’s proposal for the enclave, the first stage of which began to be launched precisely on October 10.

The Gaza Ministry of Health highlighted this Monday on its Telegram account that since the beginning of Israel’s offensive, 71,266 deaths and 171,222 injuries have been confirmed, including 414 deaths and 1,145 injuries since October 10, when a ceasefire with Israel came into force. In this period, 680 bodies have also been recovered in areas from which Israeli troops withdrew.
