The indecency case against Marco Borsato has not only cost the singer years of reputational damage, but also resulted in a huge legal bill.
When Marco realized that he was in dire straits, he contacted the most famous lawyer couple in the Netherlands. Geert-Jan and Carry Knoops are not only very good at their profession, but also about the most expensive criminal lawyers in the Netherlands. They charge an hourly wage of 1,200 euros. A hearing day alone can easily amount to 15,000 euros. But the preparations in advance and all kinds of small details also count in the final bill. Insiders estimate the couple’s total expenses over the past years to be between 300,000 and 500,000 euros.
The Knoops couple succeeded in their aim, Borsato was acquitted. Definitely now, because the Public Prosecution Service recently announced that it will no longer appeal. No real surprise, as the evidence was very thin.

The course of events naturally means that Borsato, as the winner in this file, can reclaim the attorney’s fees incurred. Although the court must decide whether all costs quoted are reasonable. It may be that Borsato will not recover all costs because it was not obligatory to engage the most expensive lawyers in the Netherlands.
