The NSS refuses to say whether it has any facts regarding the Prime Minister’s claims to the Catholicos.

The National Security Service refused to say whether they have information according to which the Catholicos of All Armenians “reports to representatives of foreign special services on a daily basis”, as Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan claimed in the parliament weeks ago.

“Azatut” sent a written request to the NSS, asking them to state whether they have such information, and if so, we asked them to provide a document or other data certifying it.

Today, the National Security Service refused to answer the request, justifying it with the limitations of a number of laws.

“Both the information requested by you, as well as other information necessary for the solution of the other problems imposed on the National Security bodies, are obtained by carrying out operational-investigative activities, the information about the results of which is classified as a state secret and according to the Law on “Freedom of Information” according to Article 8, Part 1, Clause 4, Sub-item “a” of the Law “On State Secrets” and Article 41 of the Law “On Operative-Investigative Activities” They cannot be provided on the basis of Article 8, Part 1, Clause 1.”

Prime Minister Pashinyan, committed to the overthrow of Garegin II, regularly claims that the leader of the Armenian Apostolic Church is engaged in anti-state activities, without presenting any specific facts.

“I’m saying it now and it’s my assessment, it’s also an obvious reality, that is, is it news to you that the Catholicos is being led from outside? Haven’t you seen the facts? Follow the news carefully, you will see those facts. Do you need a criminal record to see that?” Nikol Pashinyan angrily stated on December 18 when answering the question of whether or not he was an agent of the Catholicos.

A day after his claim, the civic.am media belonging to the “Civil Pact” published a document it received from the National Security Service, which did not refer to Nikol Pashinyan’s claims about the Catholicos, but to Archbishop Ezras Nersisyan, leader of the Armenian Diocese of Russia and New Nakhichevan. According to that publication, Archbishop Ezras Nersisyan, the brother of the Catholicos of All Armenians, was recruited by the Soviet KGB in the 80s.

In this case, why the National Security Agency did not reject the official civic, referring to the same state secret, as it rejected “Azat” today, is not known, moreover, the National Security Agency even claimed that Archbishop Ezras Nersisyan still maintains contacts with representatives of special services of foreign countries. Whether or not there is a criminal case on this is again unknown.
