According to media reports, a German woman who was convicted of a high-profile traffic accident in Italy that left three people dead a year ago (pictured above) was herself hit by a car and seriously injured, according to media reports. When contacted, Italian police confirmed reports that the incident occurred on Sunday in the municipality of Ronco all’Adige, near the northern Italian city of Verona.
The woman from Lower Bavaria was taken to a nearby hospital in Verona immediately after the accident, reported the Ansa news agency. She is being treated there in the intensive care unit. Her condition is therefore considered critical, but not life-threatening.
In July 2023, the woman from the Deggendorf area in Bavaria hit a group of pedestrians with her car in the northern Italian town of Santo Stefano di Cadore, not far from the border with Austria. A two-year-old boy and his father and grandmother died. The mother was taken to a clinic injured, and the grandfather, who had walked at a distance from the group, suffered a heart attack.
Woman should serve prison sentence in psychiatric hospital
Just over a year ago, the German was sentenced to four years and eight months in prison. Because of her mental condition, a judge decided that she should serve her sentence in a psychiatric facility in the province of Verona. At that time, her defense attorney tried in vain to have her transferred to a facility in Germany to serve her sentence.
The woman is said to have left the facility during a break, Ansa reported. The head of the facility told the news agency that she climbed over the fence and that the police were then alerted. The employees then found out about the accident. The exact cause of the accident is still unclear and is being investigated by the authorities.
