Kim Jong Un’s daughter makes first public visit to North Korean leaders’ mausoleum

Kim Ju Ae, the daughter of North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, has made her first public visit to the Kumsusan Mausoleum, the place where the mortal remains of the dynasty rest in an act that once again puts the young woman before the cameras amid speculation about her future position in the North Korean Government.

The young woman, whose figure is so restricted that not even her exact age is known (experts in the country believe she is between 12 and 13 years old) first appeared before the public in November 2022 while accompanying her father in the inspection of a missile and, since then, her presence has been gradually measured.

That is why the visit he made this past January 1 is his most important appearance due to its symbolic importance: Kumsusan is the final resting place of his great-grandfather and founder of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (the official name of the country), Kim Il Sung, and of his grandfather and father of the North Korean leader, Kim Jong Il.

However, the North Korean media has wanted to minimize her presence as much as possible: Kim Ju Ae only appears in an official photo and neither the official North Korean news agency KCNA nor the mouthpiece of the Government party, the ‘Rodong Sinmun’, explicitly mention her in their account of the ceremony in the Hall of Eternal Life.

“All participants expressed their firm determination to uphold with unwavering loyalty the ideology and leadership of Comrade Kim Jong Un and to fulfill their responsibilities and duties at the forefront of the sacred cause of achieving unlimited prosperity and development of the great Democratic People’s Republic of Korea and promoting the well-being of the people,” they simply proclaim.
