Unrest in Iran – Trump: “Stand by”
“We are at our feet and ready,” Trump wrote on the online service he founded, Truth Social. The unrest began on Sunday with protests by small shop owners against high inflation and the collapse of the currency and has since spread across the country.
In response, the Iranian government announced a dialogue with representatives of unions and traders. The unrest hits the leadership in Tehran at a critical time, as the economy is suffering from Western sanctions, an inflation rate of over 40 percent and the consequences of days of air strikes by Israel and the United States in June last year.
