The fire brigade received a report on New Year’s Eve around 1 p.m. of a fire in an apartment building. The fire was on the first floor in the communal hall. The fire brigade was able to extinguish the fire without too much difficulty. Because the cause was unclear, the public prosecutor’s office appointed a fire expert.
“According to the initial findings of the fire expert, it now appears that there was arson,” said the public prosecutor’s office of West Flanders, Bruges department. “A garbage bag was set on fire in the communal hall on the first floor.”
No one was ultimately injured. The police were able to arrest a 20-year-old man. “He will be brought before the investigating judge on suspicion of arson,” it said.
