I am Jacques and Jessica Moretti, husband and wife, the owners of Le Constellation, the Crans-Montana venue that was the scene of the New Year’s Eve massacre, in which 47 people were killed. Corse Matin, the newspaper of the French island where the couple is from, writes this, while the broadcaster Bfm reports that the woman “was in the bar when the accident broke out, she was burned in one arm, while her husband was in one of the other two premises” they own. It is a restaurant in Lens, near Crans-Montana, Le Vieux Chalet, known for its Corsican specialties, which is “temporarily closed”.
Jean-Thomas Filippini, a friend of the couple, managed to get in touch with Jessica Moretti shortly after the catastrophe. “They are people I have known for 10 years. On 31 December 2015 we sang there with our group I Vagabondi – he tells Corse Matin – This year Jacques wanted to organize a festival of Corsican songs. A fortnight ago we sang in the church of Crans-Montana. Last night, an acquaintance informed me that their place was on fire. I asked Jessica if they were alive. She replied yes, telling me it was a tragedy… They are an adult couple workers returned to Corsica whenever they could.”
Having settled in the Swiss region in the 2000s, the Morettis took over Le Constellation in 2015, then in a state of abandonment, transforming it into a very popular venue, especially during periods of strong tourist influx. The venue could accommodate up to 300 people inside.
