Antisemitism in a cup of coffee: A barista was fired after serving a latte with a swastika

A firm response from the management of the place

When the case was published, the management of the cafe did not wait long. After checking the security cameras and an internal inquiry, the responsible employee was identified – a young barista – and he was immediately fired from his job.

In an official statement on behalf of the cafe, it was said: “We are shocked by the case. This symbol represents hatred and genocide, and has no place in our business or in our community. We follow a policy of zero tolerance towards anti-Semitism and any form of racism. The employee is fired immediately, and we apologize from the bottom of our hearts to the customer and to the entire Jewish community.”

“Inscription on the foam”

“The fact that someone feels comfortable enough to draw a swastika on a customer’s coffee in the heart of a Jewish neighborhood is a bright warning sign,” said an official in the local community. “This time it was a cup of coffee, tomorrow it could be a physical attack. We must not normalize these scenes.”

London’s Metropolitan Police have been briefed on the details of the case, and the matter is being investigated as a potential hate crime. In the meantime, the Jewish community is called to continue to keep their eyes open, but also to maintain community resilience in the face of the waves of hatred that wash over the British capital.
