Machado visualizes the “imminence of the transition in Venezuela” and assures that freedom “is close”

The Venezuelan opposition figure María Corina Machado stated this Monday that the capture of the president of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, in an attack by the United States is “an enormous step that marks the inevitability and imminence of the transition” in the Latin American country.

Thus, he applauded the “brave people of Venezuela” who have taken to the streets “in 30 countries and 130 cities around the world” to celebrate Maduro’s removal from power. “The freedom of Venezuela is close and soon we are going to celebrate in our land. We are going to shout, pray and hug each other as a family, because our children will return home,” he expressed through his profile on the social network X.

The Nobel Peace Prize winner, on behalf of Venezuelans, has thanked Donald Trump’s Administration “for its firmness and determination in compliance with the law”, while she has assured that Caracas will be Washington’s main ally in matters of security, energy, democracy and Human Rights.

His statements come after Trump said that his country will “take charge” of the situation in Venezuela “so that the transition is possible” and expressed serious doubts about Machado because he considers that he does not have sufficient support among the Venezuelan population.

Since then, the Vice President of Venezuela, Delcy Rodríguez, has assumed presidential functions in accordance with Venezuelan legality and has invited the United States “to work together on a cooperation agenda.”

CAPRILES FIRST REACTION

For his part, the opponent Henrique Capriles has reacted for the first time to the US attacks that took place this weekend in various parts of Venezuela and that resulted in the capture of Maduro and the first lady, Cilia Flores, whom the US authorities accuse of narcoterrorism.

“Our Venezuela is experiencing moments of tension and uncertainty (…). Any solution must be peaceful, constitutional and respecting the will of the people,” he noted, after emphasizing that “complex times” require them to “act responsibly, as well as not fall into despair and “continue fighting until democracy and the well-being of all are achieved.”

Capriles added that “it cannot be ignored that those who remain in power today were responsible for leading the country to the deepest political, social and economic crisis” in the history of Venezuela, marked by “failed dialogue and negotiation processes”, by “abuses, abuses, violations of the Constitution and the rights of the people from power.”

“How many economic resources looted? How much oil wealth stolen by those in charge of the public treasury? Chaos has never been an ally of change nor can it continue to be an excuse to perpetuate errors that only aggravate the suffering of the people,” declared the Venezuelan opponent.

In this sense, he has defended that Caracas needs to “turn the page on revenge and improvisation, direct the country towards a democratic solution with real guarantees for all” and justice, claiming that “an inescapable step” is the freedom of “all political prisoners, the return of exiles”, unconditionally.

Thus, he has defended that “continuing to demand conditions and respect for the popular will is not giving up”, but rather “preventing the country from going further backwards and closing the way for those who bet on discouragement as a strategy.” He also added that “without real improvements in the economy there will be no well-being or social peace.”

However, he has called on all actors to preserve the functioning of essential services and prevent them from deepening the pain of the Venezuelan people, maintaining that his commitment is to “keep a democratic route open, contribute from where appropriate to an orderly transition and avoid errors that cost additional years of setback.”

“Democratic change is a process that requires perseverance, clear rules, a verifiable calendar and international support. Abandoning it would be giving the future to those who want nothing to change,” Capriles concluded.
