Protests in Iran: a policeman was killed by live fire – hundreds have been injured since the beginning of the protests

The Tasnim news agency reported that since the beginning of the wave of protests last week, at least 568 police officers as well as 66 members of the security forces of the Basij were injured in clashes with demonstrators across the country.

It was also reported that in Abdanan, according to local reports, unusual scenes were recorded when Basij men and police officers went up to the roof of the police station in the city, waved peace to the protesters and even demonstrated gestures of solidarity, in an attempt to reduce tensions and prevent escalation.

The events illustrate the growing tension in western Iran, where there is a combination of civil protest alongside violent clashes, while at the same time local attempts are being made to maintain dialogue and avoid widespread deterioration.

The agency said that 29 protesters, four children and two members of Iran’s security forces were killed. The demonstrations reached more than 250 centers in 27 of Iran’s 31 provinces. The group, which relies on a network of activists inside Iran for its reports, has been accurate in its reports of unrest in the past. In the meantime, the security forces in Iran were recorded shooting at a group of demonstrators in the bazaar in Tehran.
