The Bolivarian National Armed Forces confirmed that at least 23 officers died in the attack carried out by the United States last Saturday with the aim of detaining Nicolas Maduro and his wife.
The information was released this Tuesday by the Venezuelan media The Patilla and by different international news agencies, after four days without official data on possible deaths during the attack.
The new number of soldiers killed during the attack is added to those 32 Cubans who died during the offensive – as confirmed by Havana – and that they were serving as guards for the deposed president.
Who also suggested that there were casualties on the Venezuelan side was the attorney general of Venezuela, Tarek William Saab during a protocol act of notification of the installation of the new National Assembly. Without mentioning an exact number of deaths or their nationalities, he announced that the Public Ministry appointed three prosecutors to “investigate the dozens of innocent civilian and military casualties that occurred in the midst of this war crime.”
Meanwhile, from Washington it was reported from the beginning that there had been no American casualties.
On Monday the newspaper New York Times had revealed that 80 people, including civilians and members of the security forces, had died during the US incursion into Venezuela.
“In total, the number of dead amounts to at least 80, including civilians and soldiers, and could increase, according to a senior Venezuelan official,” the US media had reported.
The US attack on Caracas included mwings of 150 aircraft which departed from twenty bases in the Western Hemisphere and bombed the main Chavista military barracks until neutralizing the Venezuelan air defense.
These include helicopters, F-35 and F-22 fighters, B-1 bombers, drones and tankers. Once the defense was eliminated, the helicopters carrying the assault force, composed mostly of members of the Delta Force, entered the area. They were attacked, but They responded to the fire – which explained a good part of the deaths – and they advanced towards the bunker to capture Maduro and his wife.
Several US media outlets, citing Venezuelan government sources, reported that, in addition to Caracas, military targets in the Caribbean coastal states of Miranda, Aragua and La Guaira were also attacked.
Through a publication in Granmathe official communication organ of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC), Havana released the identity of the 32 soldiers from Nicolás Maduro’s personal guard who died last Saturday during the United States operation that ended with the arrest of the Venezuelan dictator for drug trafficking.
This is a group of combatants from the Ministry of the Interior and the Cuban Revolutionary Armed Forces that carried out missions in Venezuela at the request of the Maduro government.
The presidential guard that fell trying to defend the dictator was made up of two colonels, four majors, four captains, six first lieutenants, four lieutenants, a senior non-commissioned officer, a first non-commissioned officer and ten soldiers. Nine of them were already retired.
The guard was made up mainly of soldiers between 30 and 39 years old, although with an average age of 44 years. The youngest was 26, while the oldest was 67.
