Woman shot in ICE immigration raid in Minneapolis

A woman was shot dead during an operation by federal authorities in Minneapolis, Minnesota, on Wednesday morning. This was confirmed by the US Department of Homeland Security. Accordingly, an ICE immigration officer fired at the woman during an ongoing arrest raid in a residential area in the south of the city. She died at the scene. Local media and the “New York Times” also reported. President Donald Trump’s administration is currently conducting massive immigration raids in Minnesota.

Bullet holes in the windshield

An eyewitness reported that an ICE officer shot the woman through the window as she tried to flee in her car. The officers had previously tried to drag her out of the car because she had filmed the raid. The vehicle then crashed into a pole about 30 meters away. The Department of Homeland Security claims that according to their information, the woman tried to ram the ICE officers with her car. The situation is still unclear.

Immediately after the shooting, protesters gathered and threw snowballs at federal officers. The emergency services used tear gas and pepper spray.

The operation comes amid a large-scale immigration operation that the ministry described on Tuesday as the “largest operation in the agency’s history.” Around 2,000 federal officers are to be deployed in the greater Minneapolis area in the coming weeks. Many top Democratic representatives in Minnesota, on the other hand, accuse the government of using the massive deployment of personnel to deliberately stir up fear and escalate the situation.

Mayor: ICE officers are causing chaos and endangering the city

Governor Tim Walz called for calm and announced that he would publish information about the ICE operation as soon as it was available. At the same time, he criticized the lack of coordination with the federal state. Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey called on X for the immediate withdrawal of ICE officers: the presence of federal authorities was causing “chaos” and endangering the city. Hennepin County District Attorney Mary Moriarty is pushing for an independent local investigation: this is the only way to ensure transparency.
