Rubio explains that the US plan for Venezuela goes through three phases: stability, recovery and transition

The Secretary of State of the United States, Marco Rubio, explained this Wednesday that the Donald Trump Administration’s plan for Venezuela after the capture of Nicolás Maduro goes through three phases, the last being the political “transition” in the Latin American country.

“It is a triple process (…) The first step is the stabilization of the country. We do not want it to fall into chaos,” Rubio declared in statements to the press from Washington, adding that for this they are seizing oil tankers and that they are “about to close an agreement to remove all the oil stuck in Venezuela.”

According to the head of US diplomacy, the second phase, the so-called “recovery”, consists of “guaranteeing that American, Western and other companies have access to Venezuelan oil.”

“At the same time, a process of national reconciliation will begin to be generated in Venezuela, so that opposition forces can be amnestied and released from prisons or repatriated to the country and begin to rebuild civil society,” he stated.

Finally, he indicated that the third phase “will be transitional.” “Some aspects of these will overlap,” he clarified before maintaining that he will give “more details in the coming days” but that he believes they are “progressing in a very positive way.”
