In the background of Trump’s plan to “buy” Greenland: the unequivocal instruction received by the Danish army

Denmark’s Ministry of Defense confirmed that in accordance with a 1952 military regulation, Danish soldiers are obliged to “shoot first and ask questions later” in the event of a foreign invasion of the country, including a scenario of US military action in Greenland. The approval was given in response to the request of the Danish newspaper “Berlingska”, against the background of the growing tensions between the countries.

According to the rules established more than seven decades ago, in the event of an invasion, the attacked forces must start fighting immediately and without waiting for further orders, even if the senior commanders are not yet aware of an official declaration of war or a state of war. The Ministry of Defense in Copenhagen clarified that this directive, concerning military precautions during an attack, remains in full force.
