After shock diagnosis: Couple cancels wedding because dog has cancer

Norwich (England) – The relationship between humans and animals can be close. For many people, pets are part of the family. This couple even canceled their wedding to pay for expensive treatment for their beloved pet.

Lindsey Moore (30) and Chris Bennett (33) live with their Labrador Gus (4) in Thorpe St Andrew, a small suburb of Norwich in the English county of Norfolk. The couple have known each other since they were teenagers and knew early on that they wanted to spend their life together. But fortunately one thing was missing: Chris and Lindsey wanted a child. “Due to my lack of fertility, we may not be able to have children,” Lindsey told the Eastern Daily Press. So Labrador Gus came into the family. “Gus really is our whole world. He’s more than just one Dog.“

Tumor discovered between kidneys

The couple loves Gus so much that they have now decided to cancel their own wedding. Because: The four-year-old Labrador received a terrible diagnosis. According to the Daily Mail, it is a soft tissue sarcoma, a malignant one Tumor between the kidneys, which already affects the pelvis. The dog is in severe pain. Long walks and everyday routines are no longer possible.

The tumor apparently cannot be operated on. Doctors recommend the couple undergo palliative radiotherapy and injections to relieve their pain and improve their quality of life. The costs are enormous. According to the Daily Mail, the couple have already paid around £4,000, and the treatment hasn’t even started yet. In total, the couple expects it to cost at least £20,000. Perhaps more if multiple rounds of radiation therapy are needed, the report says.

The wedding was supposed to take place in May

“We are doing everything we can, but the financial pressure is almost impossible to handle alone,” Lindsey Moore told the Eastern Daily Press. That’s why the couple launched an appeal for donations online and decided to cancel the wedding on May 23rd in order to help her pet to be treated. Location, a nearby hotel, the groom’s suit, a make-up artist and many other little things have already been paid for or deposited. The couple hopes to get the money back. For Gus.
