Since January 10, the situation in Iran is completely under control, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi announced today.
Referring to the events unfolding in the last two weeks, Araghchi claimed that the situation has sharply escalated since January 1, when shots started ringing during street protests.
“We began to notice armed persons among the protesters. They were shooting not only at the security forces or the police, but also at ordinary citizens,” Araghchi said.
According to human rights organizations, at least 100 protesters were killed during the protests. According to the Tasnim agency, which is close to Iran’s most influential force structure, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, 37 members of the security forces were killed during the recent clashes.
