Iran opens airspace after Trump announces easing crackdown on protests

According to The Washington Post, after the announcement of the resumption of flights over Iran, commercial airliners from Turkey and the UAE were recorded in the skies over the Islamic state.

Iran’s judiciary has announced the cancellation of the planned execution of 26-year-old Erfan Soltani, who was previously sentenced to death for his participation in protests. US President Donald Trump previously announced an end to the killings and executions of protesters.

Following Trump’s threat to strike Iranian targets in connection with the brutal crackdown on protests, Iranian authorities have reduced the level of brutality. Arina Moradi, a spokeswoman for the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, said the execution of 26-year-old Efran Soltani, scheduled for Wednesday, had been “postponed.”

Iran’s judiciary confirmed Soltani’s arrest, saying he faces jail time rather than the death penalty and is accused of “propaganda activities” and “conspiracy against the security services.” Human rights activists do not believe that the threat against Efran Soltani and thousands of other arrested protesters has passed.

Arina Moradi recalled that previously the Iranian regime had repeatedly postponed executions under pressure from foreign governments and human rights organizations, but then carried out the sentences.
