Trump thanks Iran for canceling executions

The President of the United States, Donald Trump, thanked the Iranian regime this Friday (16) for allegedly canceling the executions of people detained for participating in the protests that began in late December in the Persian country.

“I deeply respect the fact that all the hangings scheduled for yesterday (more than 800) were canceled by the Iranian leadership. Thank you!”, wrote the American leader on the Truth Social network.

On Thursday (15), White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt had already stated during a press conference that the Iranian regime had canceled 800 executions of protesters after Trump promised military action if such measures were taken by the Islamic dictatorship.

According to information from CNN, when leaving the White House this Friday to spend the weekend in Florida, Trump contradicted information that allied countries in the Middle East had convinced him not to bomb Iran. “No one convinced me. I convinced myself,” he told reporters.

On Tuesday (13), human rights groups, such as the Norwegian Iran Human Rights and Hengaw, cited sources who stated that Erfan Soltani, 26, accused by the Iranian dictatorship of “waging war against God” due to his participation in the protests, would be executed on Wednesday (14), six days after being arrested. However, the Hengaw and family members of Soltani later said that the execution was postponed.

Yesterday, the Mizan news agency, linked to the Iranian judiciary, claimed that the protester had not been sentenced to the death penalty.

In an interview with Fox News, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stated that “there is no plan to hang” protesters.

According to international NGOs, more than 2,600 people have already been killed by Iranian security authorities in the repression of protests that began in late December due to the economic crisis in the Persian country, but whose demands now include the fall of the Islamic regime.

The Iranian dictatorship reported this Friday that around 3,000 people were arrested for participating in the demonstrations, described by the Ayatollah regime as “terrorist” acts, but human rights NGOs estimate that the real number is more than 19,000.
