Siegburg (NRW): Woman and infant seriously injured in explosion

Siegburg (North Rhine-Westphalia) – Suddenly a loud bang, then chaos. A deflagration occurred in an apartment building late in the evening. Two people were injured – including a small child.

As the fire department confirmed to BILD, the incident occurred in an apartment building on Ludwigstrasse in Siegburg (North Rhine-Westphalia) fizzled out on Friday evening. The force was so strong that a window was pushed out of the house facade. A woman and an infant were injured, said Daniel Winterscheidt, head of the Siegburg fire department.

Despite the deflagration The interior of the affected apartment was in relatively good condition, according to the operations manager. According to BILD information, the woman was able to leave the apartment independently. It was said to be full of soot. The child was wrapped in a blanket, carried out of the house and treated by emergency services. The fire department did not provide any information on the exact extent of the injuries in the evening. Both were taken to a hospital.

The deflagration is said to have occurred in an approximately 20 square meter apartment on the second floor at the back of the building. It is still unclear what caused the deflagration.

In the evening, emergency services checked the statics of the house. According to BILD information, the building is a former hotel that now houses apartments that are rented out on a short- and long-term basis.

Police are investigating

Fire department and emergency services were on site with 28 emergency services. The criminal police arrived shortly after the alarm was raised. The investigation into the cause of the deflagration is ongoing.
