Flights: EU authority recommends avoiding Iranian airspace

In view of the mass demonstrations against the leadership in Iran and the brutal suppression of the protest movement by the security forces, US President Donald Trump Tehran several times with one intervention threatened. Human rights groups say thousands of demonstrators were killed by Iranian security forces during the protests.

Trump is holding off on military intervention for the time being

Trump is currently holding back on military intervention. On Wednesday he said he had learned from a “reliable source” that “the killings in Iran have stopped.” On Friday, Trump thanked the Iranian leadership for canceling planned executions.

Trump also rejected statements from the Gulf region that Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Oman had talked him out of attacking Iran. It was Iran’s actions that influenced him, Trump told reporters.

The protests in Iran began at the end of December. They were initially sparked by the poor economic situation, but then quickly expanded into a mass movement against the religious and political leadership of the Islamic Republic. The authorities took brutal action against the demonstrators. According to human rights activists, thousands of people were killed and more than 10,000 others were arrested.
