The trial in the corruption case attributed to the former mayor of Etchmiadzin and his family has started

The first hearing of the corruption case against Diana Gasparyan and her family, the former mayor of Etchmiadzin, started in the anti-corruption court.

In addition to the 37-year-old former mayor, her husband and father-in-law are also accused. All are free.

Diana Gasparyan, although she promised that after the holidays she would look into the criminal case in detail, today she refused to answer journalists’ questions. He said that he will organize a press conference and address the issues related to the case.

To the journalists’ question, how did it happen that the former mayor of Etchmiadzin and his family members are free, when at the same time the opposition parties involved in corruption cases are detained, Gasparyan answered. “In any case, there is no prejudice or positive attitude towards me, there is no patronage, and why there was no arrest, the pre-investigation body should answer.”

According to the Anti-Corruption Committee, the charge is related to the expropriation of the city’s lands, within the scope of which, according to the law enforcement officers, they laundered money. The criminal case has two counts: money laundering and abuse of office.

The investigators concluded that the members of Gasparyan’s family supported his criminal acts. Gasparyan, who managed Etchmiadzin for 7 years, and his team organized the sale of plots of land in the city to members of his own family.
