Berlin – On Monday morning there was a tragic accident in a daycare center in the Berlin district of Niederschöneweide. A child died.
The accident occurred around 10:15 a.m. in the “Adlerküken” daycare center on Adlergestell Street. It is located in the Treptow-Köpenik district in the south of Berlin. The Tagesspiegel first reported.
Several police vehicles drove up to the daycare center
Fire department, Emergency service and police were on site with a large contingent. A rescue helicopter also landed. Emergency doctors immediately began resuscitation measures. But the child could not be saved.
Police: Child killed by heavy object
A spokesman for the police told dpa that the child had been hit by a “heavy object”. According to BILD information, a heavy door, which also has a fold-out function, came off its hinges and the child fatal injured.
The police did not provide any information about the child’s age or gender. Because not all relatives could be reached yet.

The police have now launched a death investigation. According to a spokesman, it is intended to clarify “whether the accident had a technical cause or whether there was a handling error”.
A crisis intervention team is also deployed at the scene of the accident. It provides psychological support to numerous traumatized children, daycare center employees and parents.
