Delcy Rodríguez will visit Washington, according to the White House

The announcement about Rodríguez’s trip comes days after a meeting between Donald Trump and the Venezuelan opposition leader and Nobel Peace Prize winner, María Corina Machado, whom the US president has excluded for the moment from the transition process in that country because he considers that she does not have enough support.

Furthermore, the announcement coincides with Donald Trump’s flattering words to the Rodríguez regime from Davos.

Trump assured that Venezuela will earn more money from oil “in the last six months” than it has in the last twenty years.

Trump has supported the new Rodríguez government, ensuring that it operates under the tutelage of his Administration and is complying with all of Washington’s demands, including access to the Venezuelan oil sector and the shipment of millions of barrels of crude oil to the US for marketing.

However, this Tuesday the Republican stated that he could “involve” Machado in some way in the future of Venezuela and declared that she was an “incredible” woman who “did something extraordinary,” in reference to the activist’s gesture, which He gave him the medal of his Nobel Peace Prize during his visit to the White House.

The same day as the meeting between Trump and Machado, last Thursday, the Venezuelan president in charge met in Caracas with the director of the CIA, John Ratcliffe with whom he addressed security issues and opportunities for economic cooperation in an effort to bring positions closer.

Ratcliffe is the highest-ranking U.S. official and the first member of Trump’s Cabinet to visit Venezuela following the Jan. 3 military operation that resulted in the capture and transfer of Maduro and his wife to New York to stand trial for narcoterrorism.

Rodríguez has said that if he had to visit Washington as leader of Venezuela he would do so “standing, walking, not dragged.”

Machado, for his part, has assured that the Chavista ruler does not represent the people of her country, affirmed that the Venezuelan interim government is “doing part of the dirty work” of “this complex phase”, and assured that he trusts that there will be an “orderly transition” in Venezuela.
