At least 61 dead and 110 injured due to the cold storm in Afghanistan

At least 61 people have died and 110 more have been injured, many of them minors, due to the cold and rain storm that is hitting several regions of Afghanistan, as reported by the National Disaster Management Authority of Afghanistan (NDMA).

The balance corresponds to those who died between Wednesday and Thursday, as indicated by the official Afghan organization in a statement published this Saturday on social networks. In addition, there are 458 homes completely or partially destroyed, according to the NDMA, which warns that these are preliminary figures and that reviews are underway in several provinces.

“The heavy rains and snowfall have caused a deadly avalanche in the province of Nuristan and in other areas, roofs have collapsed and caused traffic accidents,” the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) explained in a statement.

OCHA highlights that Afghanistan is one of the “largest” humanitarian crises in the world, with almost 22 million people in need of assistance, more than two in every five inhabitants of the country.

Thus, remember that it has made an appeal to receive 1.7 billion dollars (about 1.44 billion euros) to serve 17.5 million people.
