Mass demonstration in Venezuela demanding the release of Maduro

Caracas – AFP Thousands of supporters of ousted Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro demonstrated, demanding his release after a US military operation led to his arrest in Caracas on January 3. While Venezuela’s interim president, Delcy Rodriguez, former vice president, sought rapprochement with Washington, the government is still demanding the return of Maduro, who has ruled the country since 2013. A huge banner was raised near Oliary Square in central Caracas, reading, “We want them back,” in reference to Maduro and his wife, Celia Flores. Accountant Marlene Blanco (65 years old) considered Maduro’s arrest “against the law” and “unjust.” She added, “The oil is ours, and it must be paid for fairly.”
