In a phone call with General Secretary To Lam tonight, Russian President Vladimir Putin congratulated the Communist Party of Vietnam on successfully organizing the 14th Congress, and congratulated the Central Executive Committee, the Politburo and General Secretary To Lam personally on being trusted by the Congress to be elected to leadership positions in the new term, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The Russian President said that the 14th Congress is an important political event for Vietnam, meaningful in determining direction, setting major goals, passing important decisions, along with tasks and measures to bring Vietnam to develop rapidly and sustainably in the new era, becoming a high-income developed country by 2045.

He emphasized that Comrade To Lam continued to be elected General Secretary of the 14th Party Central Committee, demonstrating the General Secretary’s political prestige and important contributions in planning and making strategic decisions for sustainable socio-economic development, protecting interests and enhancing Vietnam’s position in the international arena.

General Secretary To Lam thanked President Putin for his attention to the important political event of the Communist Party of Vietnam, as well as his warm, sincere congratulations and personal affection for the Party, the people of Vietnam and the General Secretary personally.

The General Secretary pointed out that through Congresses, Vietnam has always received the attention and support of traditional friendly friends, including the former Soviet Union and today’s Russian Federation.

The General Secretary shared that the 14th Congress was a great success, completing a great historical mission, summarizing the implementation of the Resolution of the 13th Congress, evaluating 40 years of innovation and the results of implementing the socio-economic development platform and strategy. The Congress also sets goals, orientations, and tasks for the next 5 years and decides on strategic issues for the future and national destiny in the new era of development.

The Congress affirmed to continue to be steadfast in the goal of national independence and socialism under the leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam; establish a new growth model based on knowledge economy, digital economy, green economy, circular economy; fully promote the role of economic sectors; Strengthen building and rectifying the Party and the political system in a clean, strong and comprehensive manner.

The Congress also determined that “foreign affairs and international integration” associated with national defense and security are important and regular tasks; consistent foreign policy of independence, autonomy, multilateralization, diversification, self-reliance, peace, friendship, cooperation and development.

General Secretary To Lam affirmed that Vietnam always considers Russia to be a trusted and important partner in Europe, and wishes to develop friendly relations and cooperation with Russia in the spirit of Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.

President Putin emphasized that Russia attaches special importance to the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership with Vietnam on the foundation of 75 years of traditional friendship, constantly nurtured by the leaders and people of the two countries. He affirmed that Russia will continue to coordinate closely to comprehensively strengthen bilateral links, for the benefit of the two countries’ people and the goal of ensuring stability and security in the Asia-Pacific.

The two leaders agreed to be ready for constructive and open exchanges in the spirit of understanding, mutual respect and harmony of interests to enhance cooperation in traditional fields and expand into new potential fields.

President Putin respectfully invites General Secretary To Lam to visit Russia at any suitable time. The General Secretary happily accepted the invitation and invited President Putin to visit Vietnam soon.
