Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei moved to a special underground shelter in Tehran, amid an assessment by senior security officials in the country regarding an increase in the risk of a possible American attack – this was reported by the Iranian opposition channel “Iran International”.
According to the report, it is a fortified complex that includes a system of connected underground tunnels, designed to protect Khamenei in the event of a security escalation. The move was made after internal discussions at the top of the military and security, which indicated a growing fear of military action by the US.
It was also reported that Masoud Khamenei, the Supreme Leader’s third son, took over the management of the day-to-day activities of the Supreme Leader’s office, and serves as the main communication link between the office and the branches of government and the executive system. Iran has not given an official response to the report.
