Woman insults young people in an anti-Semitic manner – state security investigates

A woman insulted two young people in an anti-Semitic manner at a memorial event in Berlin-Westend to mark the 81st anniversary of the liberation of the Auschwitz-Birkenau extermination camp. The state security agency, which is responsible for politically motivated crimes, has taken over the investigation, as the Berlin police announced. The incident occurred on Tuesday morning.

The “Commemorative event for January 27th – Liberation of Auschwitz” took place at Theodor-Heuss-Platz and was registered from 11 a.m. Around 15 minutes after the planned start of the event, the woman spoke “loudly” to passers-by, the police said. She is said to have insulted two participants aged 16 and 17 with anti-Semitic insults.

Police officers caught the woman shortly afterwards and took a report. Meanwhile, she insulted one of the two young people again. An employee in the Berlin police situation center was unable to comment on the wording of the insults when asked by Tagesspiegel.

After the complaint was filed, the officers released the 59-year-old. The investigations by the state security are ongoing.

January 27th is the International Day of Remembrance of the Victims of the Holocaust. Around six million Jews were industrially murdered by the National Socialists. Hundreds of thousands of Sinti and Roma, people with disabilities, politically persecuted people, homosexuals and other groups fell victim to the National Socialist policy of extermination.
