Syrian Tourism Minister Mazen al-Salami told Al-Arabiya television that the authorities are making efforts to revive the tourism sector after a long civil war. “For us, this is not a minor source of income, but an important part of economic growth,” he said.
According to him, the ministry has developed a series of initiatives aimed at developing tourist facilities and services, enhancing domestic tourism through the development of routes, as well as rural tourism.
It is also reported that in January-November 2025, the number of foreign tourists visiting Syria increased by 80% compared to the same period a year earlier. Note that in 2024 there was a civil war in the country, which made it not particularly attractive to foreign tourists.
The total number of domestic and foreign tourists in 2025, according to the ministry, is about four million people. The number of visitors from Arab countries is approaching half a million – primarily Jordanians, Egyptians, and residents of the Gulf states. More than 376,000 tourists came from non-Arab countries, with Türkiye leading the way.
