Three days after the death of Alex Pretti, killed by immigration police (ICE) in Minneapolis, Donald Trump said in an interview broadcast on Fox News on Tuesday that he felt “sorry”. But the American president told American columnist Will Cain that he was even more saddened for Renee Good, the 37-year-old mother shot dead by ICE on January 7, whose parents are “tremendous supporters”.

“The whole country is talking about what happened last week in Minnesota,” Will Cain told the president on his show, adding that everyone had an opinion on the videos of the intervention of federal agents on Alex Pretti. “I’m curious what you thought the first time you saw the images,” he questioned.

“I think everything is horrible,” Donald Trump replied. I don’t like the fact that he carried a gun… It’s quite unusual. But no one knows when they saw the gun, how they saw it, and all the rest. In the end, it was terrible. »

“It saddens me”

The White House tenant also mentioned the case of Renee Good, the American mother killed in her car on January 7 by an ICE agent. “The other one was horrible too. Both were horrible (…) I know the girl’s parents were big Trump fans, which saddens me. I guess you could say even more, because they were die-hard Trump supporters. » And added: “I don’t know if we can talk about radicalization, maybe she was radicalized, maybe not. I don’t know, but it saddens me. »

In a previous interview with CBS on January 13, Donald Trump already described Timothy Gagner, Renee Good’s father, as a “tremendous supporter”, adding that he did not know if he still was. Seven days later, during a press briefing at the White House, the president acknowledged that ICE could make mistakes. “You know, they deal with difficult people. They will sometimes make a mistake. This can happen,” he told journalists.

Tuesday, in his interview with Fox News, Donald Trump explained that he wanted to “defuse the situation” with the arrival of his advisor Tom Homan in Minnesota. The man nicknamed “the border czar” is on a mission to meet with Democratic Governor Tim Walz and Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey.
