The president of the United States, Donald Trump, announced this Thursday that he has ordered the reopening of Venezuelan airspace to commercial flights after a conversation with the interim president of the Latin American country, Delcy RodrÃguez.
“I just spoke with the president of Venezuela and I informed her that we will open all commercial airspace over Venezuela. American citizens will be able to travel to Venezuela very soon and will be safe there,” he explained during a cabinet meeting broadcast by the White House.
The US president has explained that he has ordered both the Pentagon and the Department of Transportation to carry out the necessary procedures before the end of the day to allow the reopening of Venezuelan airspace.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) issued a notice at the beginning of the month to prohibit flight operations of US aircraft in Venezuelan airspace. Direct flights between both countries have remained suspended since 2019.
