New video emerged with ICE officers: Pretti’s death apparently had a previous history

New recordings now show how the situation must have worsened in the 51 days since the start of the operation Minneapoliswhich, of all people, features Pretti. And they show: His death obviously had a prelude. He had already clashed with ICE officers eleven days before the fatal incident.

What preceded the incident remains unclear. However, the video recordings show how heated the situation in Minneapolis was even before the fatal incident.

In the video, you can also see an object on Pretti’s waistband that resembles a weapon. It cannot be reconstructed from the images whether Pretti reached for it or whether the emergency services even noticed the object.

It is still unclear whether the earlier incident on January 13th is directly related to the fatal shots. Nevertheless, political actors are trying to use the images that have now emerged for their own interpretation of the case. The video received additional attention after Donald Trump Jr. shared it on the X platform and captioned it with the mocking comment “Just a peaceful observer.”

Critics see this as an attempt to relativize the responsibility of the emergency services and to subsequently discredit Pretti. Immediately after January 13, ICE officials said Pretti had attacked the officers with a gun. A version that has been refuted by numerous video recordings of the fatal incident.

“Nothing that happened before could have justified his killing.”

The family’s lawyer, Steve Schleicher, strongly rejects this interpretation. The earlier incident could in no way be used as a justification for the fatal shooting. “A week before Alex was shot dead on the street — even though he posed no threat to anyone — he was brutally attacked by a group of ICE officers,” Schleicher explained. “Nothing that had happened before could have justified his killing.”

The Department of Homeland Security said the Jan. 13 incident was under review.

The investigation comes at a time in which ICE is coming under increasing pressure not only on the street but also politically. There is growing dissatisfaction within the US government with the agency’s harsh behavior, particularly in operations against migrants. Several Democratic lawmakers are calling for stricter rules of engagement and greater oversight of federal officials.

On Thursday evening, it was announced that two ICE officers directly involved in the deadly incident were placed on leave. Previously, the authorities and Trump himself had always built the wall for them. Now it was said that this was “a standard procedure”.
