Kosovo: Election victory confirmed by ruling party

One month after Parliamentary election in Kosovo is the Sieg the left-wing nationalist government party Rajkumar confirmed by a recount of the ballot papers.

As the electoral commission announced on Saturday night, the party came from Prime Minister Albin Kurti to 51.1 percent of the votes and 57 of the 120 seats in parliament. This allows Kurti to form a government with the support of some ethnic minority MPs.

The Democratic Party (PDK) received 20.19 percent of the vote (22 seats), followed by the Democratic League (LDK) with 13.24 percent (15 seats). The Alliance for the Future (AAK) also made it into parliament with 5.50 percent (six mandates).

20 mandates reserved for ethnic group representatives

100 parliamentary seats are allocated using proportional representation, the remaining 20 seats are reserved for representatives of ethnic minorities, ten of which are for the Serbian ethnic group. Nine of the ten mandates were secured by the Serbian List (SL), which is loyal to Belgrade, and one by the small Party for Freedom and Justice.

The recount increased the ruling party’s lead. According to the preliminary results, the vote was 49 percent. The election became necessary after a political stalemate. In February 2025, Kurti’s party won the parliamentary election with 42 percent of the vote, but did not find a coalition partner.
