The Turkish President visited Saudi Arabia for the first time in two and a half years

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan visited Riyadh and held talks with the heir to the throne of Saudi Arabia, Prince Muhammad bin Salman. The visit was the first since July 2023.

“The parties agreed to strengthen cooperation in the field of oil production and petroleum products, electricity, including its renewable sources. Negotiations are underway on free trade between Turkey and the Gulf states,” Erdogan’s office said in a statement.

This was further evidence of the rapprochement between the two recent adversaries, which began after the Hamas attack on Israel. Another factor pushing Saudi Arabia away from the Abraham Accords axis was its conflict with the United Arab Emirates in Yemen.
