Ukraine highlights a “productive” start to talks with Russia and the US in Abu Dhabi

The secretary of the Ukrainian National Defense Council, Rustem Umerov, highlighted that the first three-party talks in Abu Dhabi with Russia and the United States have been “substantial and productive” and have been focused “on concrete measures and practical solutions.”

Umerov explained on his social networks that after the three-way meeting, the Ukrainian delegation has met in a separate working group and that they are already preparing a report for the Ukrainian president, Vladimir Putin.

Talks whose history dates back to January 23 and 24 are scheduled to continue this Thursday, in a new attempt to reach an agreement on the issues that cause the most friction between kyiv and Moscow, including the status of the territories in eastern Ukraine now occupied by Russian forces.

Throughout the day, kyiv and Moscow have again reproached each other for not being interested in resolving the conflict. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov warned that if Ukraine intends to use the presence of European troops on the ground as security guarantees, “Zelensky does not want peace.”
