Merz apparently meets Trump in Washington at the beginning of March

Chancellor Friedrich Merz will apparently travel to Washington again at the beginning of March for talks with US President Donald Trump. Merz will meet Trump on March 3rd in the White House, “Welt” reported in advance. It would be the Chancellor’s third visit to the US capital since taking office in May 2025. The visit comes amid transatlantic tensions, particularly stemming from Washington’s claim to Greenland. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio is also expected to attend the Munich Security Conference next week.

Merz made his inaugural visit on June 6, 2025. On the same day, Trump fell out with Elon Musk, which reduced the attention for Merz. The Chancellor traveled to Washington for a second time in mid-August together with other European heads of state and government at short notice after Trump met with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska.
