The European Union demands that TikTok change its design

On Friday, the European Union asked the TikTok application to change its design, which encourages addiction, it said, otherwise it would face heavy fines under the EU’s digital content rules, which sparked a violent reaction from the platform owned by a Chinese company. In the preliminary conclusions of an investigation that began two years ago, the European Commission found that TikTok was not taking effective steps to address the negative effects of the application, especially on minors and adults at risk. Commission spokesman Thomas Rainier said, “Tik Tok’s addictive design violates the Digital Services Law,” pointing to concerns related to features such as non-stop content browsing, autoplay, and instant notifications.
