Family has more questions than answers after reconstruction of murder of Wendy (47): “Convinced that he is playing a game”

“I did it, I killed Wendy”: eight months after murder of ex, Danny VDN returns for reconstruction

The only access road to the dead-end street was closed with closing gates on Tuesday morning. Accused Danny VDN arrived around a quarter past ten and the reconstruction was over around noon.

“The reconstruction was very confrontational for my client,” says lawyer Wim De Pooter. He acts on behalf of JB from Brakel. JB was in a relationship with the victim at the time of the offense. “My client is convinced that the accused suffers from simulated amnesia.”

The accused arrived at the scene of the crime around 9:40 am, the house where he still lived with Wendy Seghers. She had already made it clear that she wanted to end the relationship and insisted that Danny VDN leave the house.

However, there was no reconstruction. Anyone who thought they would get answers to the many questions is left with even more questions. Danny VDN told investigators he remembers nothing. This way he could not show how Wendy Seghers died with at least one stab in the morning of June 10, 2025.

“We did not have access to the criminal file in advance,” says master Kris Luyckx of law firm Desdalex. Master Luyckx represents a brother and sister-in-law of the victim. “Since we still officially knew nothing, both my clients and I had high expectations. My clients were left hungry. After the reconstruction, we are left with more questions than answers. My clients are convinced that he is playing a game when he says he knows nothing.”

Master Jef Vermassen was also on site; He defends the victim’s mother, daughter and brother. “If you tell me that he has not answered the many questions, then I have to agree with you,” says Master Vermassen.

None the wiser

“In general, it has been happening more and more recently that an accused of a murder no longer remembers the facts. That is very bad for the victim’s family. They want answers and they are not getting them. Here too, there has been a long push to find out more, but we have not become any wiser.”

Master Issabel De Fré, who defends the accused Danny VDN, refuses to discuss the core of the case for the time being. “I mainly see a wave of assumptions by the civil parties,” says the lawyer. “I can’t handle my client’s lawsuit right now. We have to let everything sink in first.”

“The investigation into the facts is still ongoing. When everything is ready, I will certainly communicate. Today that is still too precarious,” Master De Fré concludes.
