Syrian Foreign Minister Hassan al-Shibani said that the Syrian government’s negotiations with Israel concern territories occupied after December 8, 2024, and do not include the status of the Golan Heights. Al-Arabiya TV channel reported this.
“We are talking about Israel’s withdrawal from the territories captured after the overthrow of Assad, not about the Golan. This is a separate issue. In order to conclude a security agreement with us, they must respect our sovereignty and withdraw from the newly occupied territories,” he said.
“We will not agree to recognition of Israeli steps in southern Syria. Negotiations must lead to Israeli withdrawal from territories occupied since December 2024. Israel must also refrain from interfering in the sovereign internal affairs of Syria,” he said.
This statement was made at the Munich Security Conference. Al-Shibani held talks here with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio. Among other things, an agreement between the central government and the Kurds was discussed.
