Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister: “We are ready for a compromise on the nuclear program”

A new round of US-Iranian negotiations is due to take place in Geneva on February 17. They take place against the backdrop of an expansion of the US military presence in the region and reports of preparations for a long war against Iran.

On the eve of the resumption of negotiations, Deputy Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic Majid Takht-Ravanchi said in an interview with the BBC that Iran is ready for compromises. “However, the ball is in the US’s court; the Americans must show that they are serious about reaching an agreement,” he said.

According to him, Iran is ready to reduce the concentration of uranium enriched to 60%. “We are ready to discuss other issues related to the nuclear program, provided that the United States shows readiness for dialogue on the lifting of sanctions,” he said.

At the same time, the Iranian official said that the Americans had abandoned their demand to completely abandon uranium enrichment, and also reiterated that Tehran does not intend to discuss its missile program.
