Iranian Foreign Minister held talks with IAEA chief

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi, who arrived in Geneva for Iran-US talks, met with IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi. “This was a thorough technical discussion ahead of tomorrow’s talks,” Grossi said.

Negotiations will take place on February 17. The American delegation will be led by special representative of the American President Steve Witkoff and Donald Trump’s adviser and son-in-law Jared Kushner. There will be no face-to-face meeting; communication will take place through the mediation of Oman.

After landing in Geneva, Araqchi said that he arrived with specific ideas to achieve a fair agreement, but stressed that Iran will not agree to negotiate under pressure and threats.

On the eve of the resumption of negotiations, Deputy Foreign Minister of the Islamic Republic Majid Takht-Ravanchi said in an interview with the BBC that Iran is ready for compromises. “However, the ball is in the US’s court; the Americans must show that they are serious about reaching an agreement,” he said.

The Iranian official said that the Americans had abandoned their demand to completely abandon uranium enrichment, and also reiterated that Tehran does not intend to discuss its missile program. Let us note that recently US President Donald Trump again demanded that Iran abandon uranium enrichment.
