Madagascar reports 59 deaths due to the passage of cyclone ‘Gezani’

In addition, the organization has reported that there are almost 424,000 people affected in 25 of the 114 districts into which the country is administratively divided. The most affected area is the center and east of the African island.

The balance also includes 16,428 displaced people, of which more than 11,000 are in reception centers and the rest in the homes of relatives or acquaintances. There are also 49,000 homes with damage, of which 27,000 are flooded.

The Government of Madagascar declared a State of National Disaster on February 11 due to the damage caused by the storm and has called for national and international solidarity with priority for shelter material and distribution of food and water.

The World Health Organization (WHO) and the International Committee of the Red Cross and Red Crescent have already approved $1,250,000 in aid and other organizations are expected to contribute funds as well.
