Elderly Israeli women accused of genocide and kicked out of Madrid museum

According to the Spanish publication Ok Diario, when they saw the Israeli women, other visitors to the museum began to insult them, calling them murderers and accusing them of genocide. Instead of coming to their aid by opposing the attackers, the museum administration instructed one of the security guards to take the women outside. “Some visitors are bothered by the fact that you are Jewish,” a security guard told the elderly women, asking them to hide their Jewish symbols.

A Christian Catholic woman accompanying the tourists, who filmed the incident on video, asked the museum employee for clarification, explaining to him that he was breaking the law. “There is no legal prohibition on displaying religious or national symbols,” she said.

Commenting on the attack for Ok Diario, the Spanish woman, who like the Israelis preferred to remain anonymous, said: “It is unacceptable that this happens in an institution associated with the state,” the woman said. The museum receives government funding.

The Reina Sofia Center is one of Spain’s leading cultural institutions. During Israel’s war against Hamas, it hosted an exhibition of solidarity with Palestinians called “From the River to the Sea”, which is a call for genocide. It became the arena for other anti-Israeli demonstrations.

Charge d’Affaires of Israel in Spain Dana Ehrlich, who heads the diplomatic mission of the Jewish state, condemned the actions of the museum administration: “My flag is not a provocation, it represents thousands of years of history of the Jewish people, it represents the state of Israel.”
