Paris says it is “very confident” to conclude the sale of 114 additional Rafale planes to India

Discussions for the sale of 114 additional French Rafale fighter jets to India are progressing, the entourage of French President Emmanuel Macron said on Tuesday on the first day of his official visit to India. “Negotiations are progressing,” they said, saying they were “very confident” about the conclusion of a commercial agreement with India, which has already ordered 62 copies of this device manufactured by the manufacturer Dassault.

The Indian Ministry of Defense gave the green light to these new acquisitions last week, announcing an arms purchase list totaling 33 billion euros.

Commercial negotiations immediately began, in particular on the terms of construction of these planes which New Delhi wishes, under its “Make in India” policy, to be assembled on its soil.

The Élysée also indicated that India was also interested in purchasing additional Rafales in their marine version, capable of taking off and landing on an aircraft carrier. She has already purchased 26 copies.
