Reiche wants to introduce crisis instrument for gas supply

“We are examining very carefully which is the appropriate crisis instrument,” said Reiche when asked whether she considered a strategic gas reserve modeled on Austria to be the best option.

However, one should not mix market events with extraordinary crises that could be triggered by acts of sabotage. “Unfortunately, some voices are consciously accepting the mixing of the two cases,” said Reiche. Recently there have been discussions about whether the gas storage facilities in Germany are sufficiently filled for the winter.

Reiche told the newspaper that there were enough bookings in the storage facilities for the coming winter and that supplies were secured via different delivery routes.
