The German Ministry of Defense announced the temporary evacuation of some of its military personnel from a base located in Erbil, the capital of Iraqi Kurdistan. Dozens of soldiers have already left Iraq.
“Only personnel whose presence is necessary to maintain combat capability remain. The withdrawal of troops is carried out in close coordination with our foreign partners,” the department’s press service states. Bundeswehr soldiers were in Iraq as instructors.
The reason for this decision is not stated, but it is difficult not to connect it with the confrontation between Iran and the United States, and a possible American attack on the Islamic Republic.
The CBS television channel, citing an informed source, reported that the military informed US President Donald Trump that the army would be ready to strike Iran as early as next Saturday. However, the final decision has not yet been made.
